The idea of the Electric Circus came into my head when I was passing through Times Square in NYC on my way to a friend's apartment. It was a summer night in 2016, very muggy, and I'd just taken a pretty hellish train ride to get there. I came out of the station and found one of the year's many absurd headlines plastered on a jumbo-tron. It was everywhere within a few minutes. I remember feeling glued to the spot, watching this shitstorm unfold on the screens in the middle of a square so bright it turned the night into an artificial day. What struck me the most was the feeling that I wasn't being presented with information but rather that I was being told what my feelings were.
Media circuses & societal norms only lure us into prioritizing outside voices over what's in our own hearts. Everyone is an expert in the internet age but only one person can really know what your experiences mean to you.
